Inspired Philosophy

Reggio Emilia //

What does it mean to be “Reggio-Inspired?” The Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education was developed from a city-sponsored educational system serving children up to age six, in a town in northern Italy bearing that name. The Reggio Emilia educational system is commonly recognized as one of the best programs for young children worldwide. International study groups of educators from around the globe journey to Italy annually to get a first-hand glimpse of this exceptional philosophy in action. Because in Italy this approach is integrated into the fabric of the local government, community, and its people, it cannot be replicated exactly in the United States. However, to be “Reggio-Inspired” is to adopt the core values and beliefs of this approach to educating young children. Information about our inspired philosophy, is displayed in the front hallway of our center.

My two children have attended Happy Kids for the last 9 years and there is no better option that I could recommend for a parent in Wilmington. During the school year, they offer an enriching atmosphere after school for them to complete their homework and play with friends. During the summer, they offer full time care full of field trips outside of the center, swim classes at the college, and fun-filled activities at the center. I find the atmosphere to be very safe, the environment very fulfilling at every stage of growth, and the staff is very kind, knowledgeable, and capable in working with the children. My happy kids love Happy Kids!

Curriculum is set by the seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer

  • Set curriculum content for each classroom and age
  • Progressive repetition of sing along songs, sign language and nursery rhymes.
  • Creative Curriculum is also a standardized curriculum of Developmentally Appropriate activities customized to the developmental stage of each classroom.
  • Social Emotional problem- solving curriculum called, 2nd Step. This curriculum was awarded to Happy Kids thru Smart Start of New Hanover County. 2nd Step is utilized in the public elementary schools.
  • Final Pre-K class, are instructed with, “Handwriting without Tears.” Our staff are certified with instruction for handwriting.
